Ajman Tourism and the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award announce a photography competition
As part of the events and activities of Al Murabbaa Arts Festival, the Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD), and in collaboration with the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA), announced the launch of two photography competitions, the first already started and continues until 9 October, while the second is an Instagram contest that will start on the first day of the festival on the 28th of October and ends on the 6th of November.
The competition aims to shed light on Ajman’s most prominent landmarks and commemorate its cultural and historical sites through the artistic vision and lens of the photographer, in addition to promoting the importance of photography as one of the pillars of visual creativity from an intellectual, artistic, and cultural aspect.
A jury from the Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) and Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) will announce the winners during the Al Murabbaa Arts Festival, where three photographers will receive cash prizes totaling 24K dirhams, distributed as 10K AED for the first place, 8k for the second place, and 6K for the third place. In addition, the winning photographs and selected finalists will be exhibited next to the photo archives of Ajman from the private collection of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, at the festival which will be held from the 28th of October until the 6th of November 2021. Furthermore, the Instagram Photography Contest will be launched in conjunction with the Al Murabbaa Arts Festival, where the winner of the first place will receive a cash prize of 3K AED, the winner of the second place receives a cash prize of 2K AED, and the winner of the third place receives a cash prize of 1K AED.
As for the scope of the first competition, both amateur and professional photographers are required to submit photos related to one of the main areas of Ajman, being Ajman city brimming with beaches, museums, touristic attractions and shopping centers; or Masfout area with its rich agricultural lands and beautiful natural landscapes; or Al Manama area which is adorned with historical forts and blooming Acacia, Ghaf, Sidr, and Sumar trees. This will encourage photographers to stir their creativity on one hand, highlight the touristic landmarks and attractions in the emirate, and promoting the beauty of its mountains, beaches, architectures, and natural reserves on the other hand.
His Excellency Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General of the Ajman Tourism Development Department, stated that this photography competition is an opportunity to fulfill the passion of photography enthusiasts and focus on the beautiful landmarks in Ajman through their lenses, as the emirate boasts a lot of touristic sites that make it a desired travel destination in the area and the region. The department constantly seeks to attract and encourage both amateur and professional photographers from all social groups to unleash their creativity and support them in order to transform Ajman into a hub for imagination and innovation, and a source of inspiration for all generations.
His Excellency added that the department is keen, through this competition, to provide an opportunity for young talents to capture photos that highlight the beauty of the emirate, which in turn will unleash their potentials and motivate them to further develop their hobby. We are also expecting outstanding participations from amateur and professional photographers.
In a statement announcing the competition, His Excellency Ali Khalifa bin Thalith, Secretary General of the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA), stated: “Our joint aim is to revive the various avenues of the arts in Ajman, while restoring the cultural and touristic opportunities and connection through the medium of photography.
“This opportunity invites photographers to capture the emirate of Ajman in its advanced and distinctive present, which comprises of unique aesthetics and masterpieces hidden in corners that only those with trained and creative lenses can capture.
Bin Thalith added: “We at the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, invite all photographers and hobbyists to participate and put forward competitive visual scenes to increase their chances of winning cash prizes totaling AED 24,000. The three lucky winners will also have the opportunity to have their work exhibited at the Al Murabbaa Arts Festival. We wish all the participants the best of luck.”
