UAE Climate Change Minister launches new eco-tourism activities in Ajman

New Eco-Tourism and Edutainment Excursions at Al Zorah Nature Reserve in Ajman

His Excellency Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment for the United Arab Emirates today launched new eco-tourism excursions in Al Zorah Nature Reserve. His Excellency Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General of Ajman Tourism Development Department also attended the launch of the new activities.

 

HE Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said, “I’d like to express my thanks and appreciation for the attention given by HH Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council, and Ruler of

Ajman, for his continuous support in preserving and developing the environment. I’d also like to praise the efforts made by the Government of Ajman to develop and declare Al Zorah a protected area. Characterised by its eco-system and rich diversity, Al Zorah provides a great tourist destination that offers visitors a unique opportunity to enjoy exotic natural scenery and to learn about our natural environment and cultural heritage.”

 

Al Zeyoudi added that the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment encourages opening protected areas for visitors according to specific criteria to ensure sustainability and expressed his hope that tourists would visit these areas, adhering to responsible tourism practices to maintain their rich diversity which contributes to the achievement of the sustainable development goals. “As one of the key initiatives of the Ministry’s Strategic Plan, the Eco-Tourism Development Initiative aims to qualify more protected areas in the UAE and turn them into tourist destinations in conjunctioin with the environmental authorities,” said His Excellancy.

 

Quest for Adventure, the adventure sports company will be running  kayak tours that take visitors around the natural mangroves and creeks of Al Zorah in Ajman, an area declared a “Wetland of International Importance” by the Ramsar Convention, as well offering a range of other water sports.

 

HE Saleh Al Geziry said, “These activities will offer visitors an exciting opportunity to learn more about eco-tourism and the wildlife inhabiting this area. As an ideal edutainment opportunity for all the family these activities create enjoyable days out which are knowledgeable as well as fun. The natural beauty of this area, rich in biodiversity, will create happy and memorable moments for all.  The attractions are on offer to residents and visitors in Ajman and create a lasting impression on everyone who enjoys eco-tourism and the opportunity to spot local and migrating species.”

 

The tours offer an opportunity to see several land and marine species inhabiting the expansive mangroves and are open to the public. Spanning an area of over one million square metres, the mangroves of Al Zorah are home to over 102 species of native and migratory birds including pink flamingoes that can be spotted throughout the year. 

 

The Marina also offers sweeping views of the mangroves, and will host several activities including seaplane tours, abra rides, watersports, land-based adventure sports, an outdoor fitness club and a variety of waterfront cafes and restaurants. Al Zorah is a 5.4 million square metre luxury and lifestyle destination on the natural peninsula of Ajman.
